Albert served with the 12th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles, Regimental Number 50097, and was sent to the Western Front, France and Flanders.  He was actively involved in many battles on the Front, including Courtrai where on 20th October 1918 he suffered a shrapnel wound to his thigh, from a shell exploding in the midst of his platoon.  He survived the War and died on 23rd May 1994 at his home in Arlesey, Bedfordshire. He is buried in St Mary’s Ashwell burial ground, Hertfordshire.

Albert was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. 

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Albert was the son of Emily Frances Hall, born in the 3rd quarter 1899 at Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire.  In about 1913 he moved to live in Ashwell, Hertfordshire with Mr and Mrs C Reynolds. 

Albert married Mabel Eveline Smith at Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 6th January 1923.  They had four daughters, Ruby E F born 1923, Gladys born 1925, Doreen born 1928 and Margaret R born 1935.

Albert died on 23rd May 1994 at his home in Arlesey, Bedfordshire.  He is buried in the St Mary’s burial ground, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.
