Alfred was a rifleman in the Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion, regimental number 48998. He fought in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders, and was killed in action on 10th August 1919. 

He is buried in the Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France,  and is commemorated on the Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire War Memorial.  

He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Alfred was born in Bourn, Cambridgeshire (second of five sons) to John and Eliza Dodson, who lived in Caldecote.

Alfred’s brother Ferdinand Brenyer Reuben Dodson also served in France and Flanders and was killed in action 28th November 1915 and is buried in the Chocques  Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.  He is also commemorated on the Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire War Memorial.
