Edward enlisted in June 1917 and was posted to the Royal Army Service Corps in September 1917, as a driver with the Motor Transport Division, Regimental Number 337853. He was drafted to the Western Front, Italy where he took an active part in the operations on the Piave River. He survived the War and was demobilised in May 1919. He died at Rochester, Monroe County, New York, USA on 25th January 1955.
Edward was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Edward was born at Bulwell, Nottinghamshire on 29th September 1879, the elder son of Arthur and Alma Rosina (nee Worboys). The 1891 census shows him living at Ashwell, Hertfordshire with his uncle and aunt, Noah and Ann (nee Worboys) Pratt. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell. In 1901 he was living in St Pancras, London and working as a wine cellarman. The 1911 census shows him living in Walthamstow with his wife, daughter and mother-in-law and working as a commercial motor driver for a wine and spirit merchant.
Edward married Rose Brittain on 23rd March 1902 at Stepney, London. They had one daughter, Dorothy Lilian, born 6th May 1906.
Edward and his family emigrated to America in March 1926. They settled in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. Dorothy married Reginald Stoneham on 30th June 1928. The 1930 census shows Edward, Dorothy and Reginald working for the Kodak Works in Rochester, where Edward was still working in 1940.
Edward died at Rochester, New York on 25th January 1955.
