Ferdinand served as a private in the Bedfordshire Regiment, 8th Battalion, regimental number 29867.  He fought in the Western European Theatre of War, France and Flanders, and died of wounds on 28th September 1915.

He is buried at Chocques Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.  He is commemorated on the Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire War Memorial.

He was awarded the 1914/15 Star Medal, Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Ferdinand was born in Knapwell, Cambridgeshire to John and Eliza Dodson, who lived in Caldecote.

Ferdinand’s brother Alfred John Charles Dodson also served in France and Flanders and was killed in action 28th November 1915 and is also buried in the Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.  He is also commemorated on  the Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire War Memorial.
