It is not known when Frank enlisted initially with the Territorial Force and became Acting Sergeant, Regimental Number 1351. He then transferred to the 54th East Anglian Division, Royal Engineers (Signals) as Sergeant, Regimental Number 528544. He received the Military Medal for acts of gallantry in France.
Frank was awarded the British Medal, the Victory Medal and the Military Medal.
Frank survived the War and died on 25 May 1978.

Frank was born on 11 February 1891 at Kempston, Bedfordshire, the eldest son of John William and Sarah Ann (nee Denton) Makeham. The 1911 census shows him as an apprentice electrical engineer.
Frank married Florence M Crane in Ashwell, Hertfordshire in the second quarter 1915. They moved to Wallesey, Cheshire where their two sons were born, William Andrew in January 1921, and Frank Raymond in April 1922.
Frank died on 25 May 1978.
