Harold enlisted on 17th January 1917.  He saw active service with the 11th and 12th Sections of the Heavy Battery, Tank Corps on the Western Front, France and Flanders.

He survived the war and died in Ashwell, Hertfordshire in September 1950.

Harold was awarded the British Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Harold was born in Ashwell, Hertfordshire on 23 June 1894, the fifth son of George and Lucy (nee Waldock) Worboys. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylor School.  The 1911 census shows him as a farm labourer.

Harold married Florence Rhoda Anderson on 10th July 1917. They had three children, Basil Harold born 262.1923, Theophilus George born 29.8.1926, and Hilary Rhoda born 1934.

After leaving the army Harold purchased two cottages in Gardners Lane, Ashwell, Hertfordshire and lived there until his death in September 1950.

Rhoda was the postwoman for Ashwell for over 60 years and was awarded the British Empire Medal for her work.

Two of Harold’s brothers, Arthur and John William, died in active service during the War.
