Howard enlisted on 21st June 1917 with the Royal Garrison Artillery, Regimental Number 169540, 375th Siege Battery. He served on the Western Front, France and Flanders where the Battery was engaged in battles around Ypres.
Howard survived the War and died in Ashwell, Hertfordshire in December 1938.
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Howard Albert was the son of Mark Tyler and Susan Charlotte Tyler. The birth registration shows him being born in Stevenage but the census records show Baldock, Hertfordshire. From the age of 9 months Howard lived with his uncle Charles Howard and his wife in Ashwell. The 1911 census shows them living at Ashwell End Farm, Ashwell, Hertfordshire and Howard as a farm labourer. Howard was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.
Howard married Gertrude Worboys in the 4th quarter 1914 in Ashwell, Hertfordshire. They had nine children: Lydia Annie, Leslie Sidney Howard, Gwendoline Gertrude, Derrick Horsley, Charles James, John Bevan, twins Percy Howard and Patrick, and Christine Mary, all born in Ashwell.
Howard died in Ashwell in December 1938.
