Mortimer enlisted on 3rd April 1917 at Mill Hill, London with the 29th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, Regimental Number 88264.  He was transferred to the 2/6th Scottish Rifles, Regimental Number 35815, on 24th May 1917and was transferred again to the Royal Army Medical Corps, Regimental Number 138774, on 5th February 1918 for training.  He was demobbed in January 1919.

Mortimer survived the war and died at Tottenham on 30 Aril 1957.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Mortimer was the second son of John and Lucy (nee Wilmot) Fabb, born at Ashwell Station (Odsey) Hertfordshire in the 3rd quarter 1875. He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

Mortimer married Lilian Frost at Tottenham, London on 11th March 1917.  They had one daughter, Lilian Jessie, born in the 3rd quarter 1918.

Mortimer died at Tottenham on 30 Aril 1957.
