Reginald enlisted with the 1/1 Battalion of the Hertfordshire Regiment, Regimental Number 6104 on 3rd January 1916. During the War he transferred to the 6th Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment, Regimental Number 34112. He saw active service on the Western Front, France and Flanders and survived the War.

Reginald was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Reginald was born in Widford, Hertfordshire in 1889, the 2nd son of James and Elizabeth (nee Haggar) Clark in Widford, Essex. By 1901 they were living in Ashwell, Hertfordshire where Reginald was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School. His father James was the policeman in Ashwell for many years.

The 1911 census shows Reginald in service as a footman at The Hoo, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, a large estate owned by John Lockhart Wood, a retired army captain.

It is not known if Reginald married, nor when he died.

Two of Reginald’s brothers, Walter Henry and Leonard Arthur also fought in the War and both survived.
