Stanley enlisted with the 1/12th London Regiment (Territorials), Regimental Number 4537, in March 1915. This regiment was absorbed by the 1/9th battalion and his Regimental Number changed to 471692, where he rose to the rank of Company Sergeant.  He then transferred to the Royal Engineers, Regimental Number 549843, and Railways Division, Regimental Number WR/177770 where he rose to the rand of Company Quarter Master Sergeant.  It is not known if Stanley served overseas.

Stanley survived the War and died at Ashwell on 16th May 1974.

Stanley was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Stanley was the third son of William Waldock Pack and Annie Maria (nee Berry) Pack, born at Ashwell on 2nd June 1891.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.

The 1911 census shows Stanley living in West Riding, Yorkshire and working as a clerk for a railway company.

It is not known if Stanley married or had children.

He died at Ashwell on 16th May 1974.

Stanley’s brother Laurence also served in the War and survived. His  brother Frederick served with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces and survived the War.
