Thomas enlisted on 10th March 1916 with the Bedfordshire Regiment, Regimental Number 6454. He was about 36 years old. He transferred to the Army Service Company, Regimental Number 350612, and served with the 142nd Company, 16th Division, Transport.  It is thought he saw active service on the Western Front and was wounded. He spent some time in the Ware Priory Hospital where he died in 1920, it is assumed, of injuries sustained during the War. He is buried in the New Cemetery, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.

Thomas was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Thomas was the second son of James and Emily (nee Hills) Lee of Ashwell.  He was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell and before enlisting was a farm labourer.

It is not known if he married or had children.

He died in 1920 in the Ware Hospital and is buried in the New Cemetery, Ashwell, Hertfordshire.

Thomas's brother William also served in the War and survived.
