Nothing is known of Victor’s military history.

He survived the War and died at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage on 22nd March 1955. 

He is commemorated on the St Mary’s Church Ashwell Roll of Honour.

Victor was the seventh son of Charles and Annie (nee Stamford) Strickland, born at Ashwell in the 2nd quarter 1890. Victor was a pupil at the Merchant Taylors School in Ashwell.  The 1911 census shows him a carpenter. 

Victor married Ruth Letitia Gentle at Ashwell in the 1st quarter 1916.  They had two children, Vera Lily born on 11th February 1920 at Ashwell and Joan Mary born on 9th January 1922 also at Ashwell.

Victor died at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage on 22nd March 1955. 

 

Victor’s brothers Benjamin, Eugene, Bertie Charles, William and Percy all served in the War but Oben died from wounds in the Battle of the German Retreat to the Hindenburg Line.
