  • Bill Appleton (son of W.H.Appleton) was my closest childhood friend and I spent many happy hours with him at Townsend House. Bill inspired me to become a RAF pilot as he served as a Spitfire pilot during the World War II. W.H.Appleton was a character of some strength and I was really quite scared of him! He taught me to appreciate roses and good wine.
